Therapy is a confidential, safe, non-judgemental space for you to talk through what's happening for you. In line with professional guidelines, the only situations in which confidentiality might be broken is if you indicated a specific and immediate intention to hurt yourself or others.
This is up to you. We can write to your GP to advise them of treatment, at your request. We do not normally write to GPs unless you, or they, ask for an update.
Treatment is shaped by what's happening for you and your goals. In the NHS, treatment would typically last for between 8 and 12 sessions, shorter if you find things have moved on for you, longer if required. You commit to sessions on a weekly basis, and we willl regularly review progress against your goals as we go along.
A face to face or online session lasts for 50 minutes.
All our therapists are accredited and registered with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP), which is the leading professional body for CBT in the UK.
No! We sit opposite each other and it's a conversation. We've explore themes and patterns together and we work as equals. The person most expert in you is you.
CBT focuses predominantly in the present moment. We don't spend hours scrutinising your childhood or seeking to link events to distant or forgotten memories; we do explore what childhood influences might have had impact on your current situation and your own history over time. Our aim is always to use this information to inform what you can do now and next to thrive.
Not specifically, this is more associated with psychodynamic therapy. You are welcome to share your dreams and we can discuss them, we wouldn't offer an interpretation or meaning or an analysis, more supporting your exploring of them.
You commit on a session by session basis. So, if you decide to conclude therapy there is no notice period. We ask that if you intend to cancel a session, you provide at least 24 hours notice to avoid a payment fee for the session.
Often people report that they feel more energy, relief, able to engage more fully, are present more, can address situations they've been avoiding and generally function better.
